Seven years ago today Mike and I married. Seven years. I guess that sounds about right, sort of like yesterday but also like a lifetime ago. To say that life has changed since then would be an understatement. The only that that hasn’t is the two of us.
We were living in NC when we got engaged and had been together for 3 years at that point. Mike was just about to finish his masters project, just in time to relax for the honeymoon. We had no idea what was in store for us. At that point we knew we would return to Chapel Hill and he was to start the Ph.D. program that fall. That was about as much foresight as a student can have.
Now we are here in Columbus, we have Nate, Mike is working and I am not. Really everything has changed. They say that you feel differently about your husband after you have a baby. I can’t say that hasn’t happened for me. Some of it is hard, like wishing I could get out of the house and sit at a desk wearing shoes and NOT have to wipe ketchup off my co-workers neck after lunch. But the rest is better. We are that annoying couple who hold hands at the grocery store, we always have been. Having Nate just made our bond stronger. Sharing a kid, watching him grow and turn into his own person has only done good things for us. We have fun everyday, no matter what else is going on. He keeps us smiling and laughing together. The kid is amazing. They also say there is a “7 year itch.” I don’t know about that, I don’t feel the lest bit itchy.
Happy 7 years, Babe!
